  LOL: 11 Funny Wedding Photos

Gone are the days of staid, stuffy wedding photo shoots that produced predictable results completely lacking in the Wow department. Today, brides and grooms are thinking out of the box and aren’t scared to laugh at themselves along the way. We say yay to that!

Our advice is to ask your photographer to set up a series of photos that portray the lighter side of the wedding experience – who says you need to be boring to be married?

These amusing photo shoots are often done a few days after the wedding because of the time they take to set up, so don’t forget to set aside some time for it in your schedule.

Here are 11 of our favourite funny wedding photos:

#1: Splat
We love this picture because of its dynamic vibe. One can almost feel the weight of the giant foot bearing down! The tilting landscape and the fabulous expressions on the boys’ faces add to the impression of movement, and the soft pink of the shoe is in perfect contrast with the green in the rest of the picture. Try using a thumb instead of a foot, hovering above the terrified ant-like groomsmen.

#2: Hanging on for dear life
This picture is great because it pokes fun at the commonly-held belief that men don’t really want to get married in the first place. Women are becoming stronger and more independent every day, and this composition really drives this point home. While this won’t be the cover of your wedding album, it’s sure to be fun to shoot and even funnier to look at in forty years’ time.

#3: Introducing Mr and Mrs
Out with predictablilty and in with the quirky and vibrant. This photo is made all the more interesting by the bemused look on the couple’s faces. Make some signs to cling onto – here they’ve used chalk, but you could go with simple marker pen on poster board. Add a couple of interesting hats, bottles or props of your choice, and you’re cruising.

#4: It’s not on top… it’s inside
Why keep things under wraps when you can show them in all their glory? The composition of this funny wedding photo is quite popular with modern brides and grooms. Just make sure that the chosen socks are worthy of being photographed! They should be bright, funky, relevant to the groom’s personality…. and free of holes. And if it was ever in question, the promise of a close-up is all the reason a bride needs to get a French pedicure.

#5: Car trouble
Crisp, vibrant and avant garde, this photo is a tongue-in-cheek reminder that a wedding day (and a marriage, for that matter) is never without one or two bumps in the road. You can take the same approach with a black limo or dolled-up Mercedes Benz, but we think that the jalopy really adds to the charm. If you have a pair of ruby red shoes in your collection, consider dusting them off for this photo - the flash of red adds just the right amount of drama.

#6: Have you tried the cake, love?
Definitely one to be taken after the big day, this funny wedding photograph is sure to have you in stitches when you’re showing your grandkids Nana and Oupa’s wedding album one day. Perfect for the girl who doesn’t mind playing dirty, you’ll need to have a wet towel and makeup bag at hand after this shot. But the end result will be worth the sticky mess, we promise.

#7: Jazz hands
This photo certainly has a Broadway feel to it, and we love it for its unabashedly happy, free-spirited vibe. The black and white against the serene greenery packs a punch too. Group shots of the groomsmen are always a nice addition to the wedding photo album, so consider doing one with a similar composition to this one.

#8: Jump for joy
Proof that weddings aren’t the demure, reserved events that they once were, this photo is playful and dynamic. We love that the children are quietly looking on as the adults play leapfrog in their smartest attire, and love even more the enthusiasm that the men bring to the scene. Don’t forget to pack a large towel or blanket to avoid those nasty grass stains.

#9: Special of the day
An offer you just can’t refuse! The modern woman knows what she wants in life, and this photo celebrates that – the pic would have a totally different feel if it were the groom doing the pushing! Speak to the manager of your local supermarket – he’ll probably have no problem lending you a trolley for an hour. Hang a price tag off the groom’s ankle for added effect.

#10: Car boot sale
This puts a new spin on giving your partner the boot. Fun, spontaneous and relaxed, this pose is a really cute idea no matter what kind of car you’re using to take you to and from your wedding ceremony. It may be even better if the shoes came off and the couple had their heads thrown back in laughter, or otherwise caught in a wild embrace in the middle of the town square.

#11: Don’t hold back
Full of life and humour, this is another funny wedding photo that is just begging to be added to your photo album. The deep, vibrant colours of the bridesmaids’ dresses and headwear lend an oil painting-like richness to the shot, while the dapperly suited groomsmen’s enthusiasm for the job at hand adds an authenticity that just about jumps off the screen.
